Man from Durham Tragically Dies in Crash Involving a Moped in Durham, North Carolina

DURHAM, NC – According to an online news report at abc11.com, the Durham police indicate that the operator of a moped tragically died in a crash earlier this week.*

The accident occurred in the morning hours at the intersection of North Guthrie Avenue and Juniper Street where a 2016 Tao Tao moped slammed into a 2018 Nissan Altima.

Police indicate that the driver of the Nissan, a 41-year-old male, was headed eastbound on Juniper Street where he had stopped at a stop sign at North Guthrie Avenue and then pulled forward, stopping at the intersection.  The moped driver, a man, aged 59, had the right of way and crashed into the front driver’s side of the Nissan.  This individual, as a result of the impact of the crash, died at the scene of the accident, per the local police.  The driver of the Nissan is facing charges of misdemeanor death by vehicle and the failure to yield right of way.  It appears that speeding and drug/alcohol impairment were not factors in the accident.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
