Man Dragged by a Vehicle and Tragically Killed, Homicide Investigation Underway
CHARLOTTE, NC – According to an online news report at wsoctv.com, local authorities are currently conducting an investigation of a homicide where an individual was dragged by a vehicle and tragically killed late last week on Interstate 85 in northern Charlotte.*
The accident occurred between the Interstate 85 connector and Sugar Creek Road in the early morning hours. According to the local police, two individuals were involved in an argument at a 7-Eleven located on West Sugar Creek Road. One of the men drove away while the other grasped onto his car as it sped away. The victim, aged 48, tragically died after was dragged by the vehicle for about a half of a mile onto the interstate. He eventually fell off of the car on the roadway.
Police initially thought that the accident involved a pedestrian who had been struck, but they soon came to the realization of what really happened. Police called in homicide detectives and their major crash unit to evaluate the cause of the accident. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Police pulled a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis out of a ditch located on the side of the roadway. It had a South Carolina license plate. However, it is not clear whether the driver or the person who died were South Carolina residents. The driver of the car has not been identified by the police at this time. All northern-bound lanes were blocked off to traffic as police conducted an investigation of the accident scene.
There are no further details on the accident at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
