Woman Pedestrian Tragically Dies After Being Struck by a Vehicle in North Carolina

NORTH CAROLINA – According to an online news report at jdnews.com, a female pedestrian from Jacksonville, North Carolina tragically died late last week in the nighttime hours after being struck by a vehicle.*

Per a North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper, he was dispatched to the scene of the accident that occurred close to the intersection of Daly Street and Walton Road.  The driver, a 41-year-old from Havelock, North Carolina, was operating a Dodge Nitro at the time of the accident.  He called 911 after striking the pedestrian, a woman, aged 33, from Jacksonville, North Carolina.  The accident occurred on Walton Road.  The female pedestrian was struck given the fact that she was wearing dark clothing at the time of the accident.  She tragically died at the scene of the accident.  

The man who struck the woman was driving his Dodge Nitro alone down Walton Road heading toward Highway 24.  He was traveling 35 miles per hour at the time of the crash, which was the designated speed limit for the roadway.  This is when he struck the pedestrian.  According to a preliminary report, the pedestrian was standing in the roadway on Walton Road when the crash happened.  A local resident of the neighborhood where the accident occurred helped the man who struck the pedestrian to search for her following the crash.

According to the trooper, the male driver was not responsible for causing the accident.  He was not impaired at the time of the crash and is not going to face charges.  It appears that the section of Walton Road where the accident occurred was dark and not properly lit.  The trooper further states that the driver was not sure what he hit.  There are no further details on the accident at this time. The crash remains under investigation by the local police.
