Nine People Sent to the Hospital after Crash in Johnston County, North Carolina

October 06, 2019

JOHNSTON COUNTY, NC – According to an online news report at spectrumlocalnews.com, nine people were sent to the hospital following a crash that occurred in Johnston County, North Carolina.  The crash occurred during the weekend.*

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol has confirmed that two automobiles were heading north on Buffalo Road.  A sports utility vehicle had stopped at an intersection while trying to turn left on Rive Deli Run.  At this point, a van rear-ended the back of the sports utility vehicle.  The driver of the van has been charged with a failure to reduce speed.

The report does not clarify whether either vehicle had passengers and who was specifically injured. The victims have not been identified at this time.  There are no further details on the accident.  The crash remains under investigation by the local police.

Approximately one-third of all vehicular accidents are the result of a rear-end crash, per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. There are several causes of rear-end collisions, which include the following:

  • Going at an excessive rate of speed
  • Driving while distracted (this includes talking on a cellphone, texting, eating, drinking, grooming, putting on makeup, taking selfies, reading, and fiddling with a radio or GPS device)
  • Heavy traffic conditions
  • Road rage
  • Mechanical failures
  • Driving while tired
  • Driving while impaired by alcohol and/or drugs

If the driver behind your vehicle was tailgating, or following too closely, and crashes into the rear-end of your vehicle, he or she is typically at fault for causing the crash.

Rear-end collisions, even at low speeds, can result in serious injuries.  Common injuries associated with rear-end collisions include the following:

  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Whiplash and other injuries to the next
  • Injuries to the shoulder
  • Injuries to the back
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Bone fractures
  • Internal bleeding
  • Internal organ damage
  • Knee injuries
