North Carolina State Highway Patrol Investigating Deadly Hit-and-Run Crash

October 06, 2019

CHARLOTTE, NC – According to an online news report at wbtv.com, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (SHP) were dispatched to the scene of a deadly hit-and-run accident on Interstate 77. The accident occurred during the weekend.*

The pedestrian, a 29-year-old man from Cornelius, North Carolina, was walking on the southbound shoulder close to mile marker 31 located in Iredell County when he was hit by an automobile.

The accident occurred in the early morning hours.  The SHP indicates that the car that hit the man briefly stopped and then left the accident scene.  The man’s mother asserts that this was a “senseless act.” She is urging the public to contact the Iredell County Police Department should they have any information on the crash.

The deceased man’s mother indicates that “[w]e are deeply saddened and have no words for the loss of this sweet soul. He touched so many lives everywhere. If you knew him, you know how much this young man had to give.”

Accident investigators are looking for a 2006 to 2009 Volkswagen Golf that likely has been damaged on its right side, front, and underneath the vehicle.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the SHP Troop F Communications Center anytime at 828-466-5500.
