Landscape Worker Struck by a Trailer, Sustains Fatal Injuries
MILLERS CREEK, NC – According to an online news report at journalpatriot.com, a man was struck and tragically killed by a trailer that was being pulled by a runaway landscape truck earlier this week. The accident occurred in a subdivision off of North Carolina Highway 16 North in Millers Creek, per a trooper with the North Carolina Highway Patrol.*
The victim, a man, aged 70, from the Rock Creek community perished at the scene of the accident due to sustaining a head injury as well as other injuries that have not been reported.
The vehicle that was involved in the crash was a Ford F-350 that was pulling a dump trailer that was being used to transport mulch to a local residence and neighboring homes. In the late afternoon, the accident victim backed his truck up a steeply-included driveway at a home where the homeowner had asked him to place additional mulch around some of their trees. In response, the victim put his truck in neutral, engaged the parking brake, and exited the truck to advise his employees where to place the mulch.
The homeowner asked the victim to add more mulch around some trees on their property. Tragically, the truck, as well as the trailer, started to roll down the hill and the man, as a result, jumped onto the side of the trailer in an attempt to stop it from rolling. In the process, the man fell off of the trailer and was run over. The man tragically died at the scene of the accident, per the landscaping employees at the scene.
The truck and its trailer continued to go for another 200 feet across the lawn of the residence and road before slamming into a home. A man, his wife, and two young children were in the home at the time that it was hit. No one in the home was hurt, but the home sustained serious damage in the crash.
There are no further details on the accident at this time.
