Three Pedestrians Tragically Perish in Ten Days on Roads in New Hanover County, North Carolina

October 07, 2019

WILMINGTON, NC – According to an online news report at wect.com, three pedestrian accidents recently occurred on New Hanover County Roads.*

Two pedestrians tragically perished over the weekend in separate accidents in Wilmington, North Carolina while attempting to cross heavily trafficked roads.  Police are searching for the driver involved in one of the cases, which was a hit-and-run accident.

According to the local police, this past weekend, a 44-year-old woman was struck and killed as she was trying to cross Oleander Drive close to 58thStreet in the nighttime hours. Also at this time, a 30-year-old man was struck by a vehicle while attempting to go across Market Street close to the local Walmart.  This was a hit-and-run accident that caused the 30-year-old to die at a local hospital where he was being treated for his injuries.  The driver of the vehicle that hit the man fled the scene and headed westbound on Market Street while weaving in and out of traffic, per eyewitnesses. The local police are currently searching for the driver of a burgundy or red Buick sedan from the late 1980s.

From the wreckage of the hit-and-run accident, it appears that the Buick likely sustained damage to the front end of the passenger side of the vehicle. A headlight may also be damaged as well as the vehicle’s windshield.

A third individual was struck and killed in a pedestrian accident that occurred back in September.  According to local troopers, a 60-year-old man tragically died as he was trying to go across Carolina Beach Road close to Myrtle Grove Road in the nighttime hours.  He was transported to a local hospital following the crash where he later died from the extent of his injuries.

There are no further details on the accident at this time.  The crashes remain under investigation by local authorities.
