Workers’ Compensation Suit Results in $435,000 Settlement
A lawsuit has settled for $435,000 against two building owners. The suit involved back injuries sustained during electrical work inside a multi-story building.*
On the day of the accident, the plaintiff in the lawsuit, a 49-year-old man, was performing electrical work from a 12-foot ladder on the third floor of a building. The man and his partner were taking out busbar, which is a metallic bar that distributes electrical current. The partner was pushing the busbar through a hole to the man.
When the man was not expecting it, the partner pushed more of the busbar through the hole in the wall, and the busbar moved then broke away. The busbar hit the man, who fell from his ladder and landed on the concrete floor.
The man suffered significant injuries, including serious spinal injuries that left him unable to work. He had costly medical bills and lost wages associated with the workplace accident, and he sued the owners of the building. The lawsuit claimed that the owners did not provide the man appropriate equipment to safely carry out his job.
Recently, the lawsuit settled for $435,000. One of the building owners agreed to pay $425,000, and the other agreed to pay $10,000. The owner paying the lesser amount did not own the area of the building where the accident occurred.
