Worker Killed at UPS Facility in Kentucky
LEXINGTON, KY. – October 23, 2018 (lex18.com) According to an online news report from lex18.com, a worker died October 23 after an accident at a UPS facility in Lexington, Kentucky. Little is known about the accident at this time.*
The accident occurred just before noon on October 23 at a UPS facility located on Mercer Road in Lexington. The worker, identified as 43-year-old Anthony T. Schanding, was reportedly conducting equipment maintenance at the facility when he sustained an unknown injury. The Lexington Police Department and Lexington Fire Department responded to the scene, and Schanding was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.
The cause of death is pending results of an autopsy. Details about the cause and nature of the accident have not been reported. It is not clear whether Schanding worked for UPS or another company. Funeral arrangements are reportedly being handled by Clark Funeral Home of Carlisle, Kentucky.
Local authorities are investigating and have not released additional information at this time. It is not clear whether an investigation will be conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The incident that killed Schanding represents the third workplace accident to occur at a UPS facility in Lexington in 2018. In May, a propane torch set off an explosion at the UPS Freight Center located on Blue Sky Parkway in Lexington. Approximately three months later, in August, an independent contractor was killed in a lawnmower accident that occurred at the same facility.
