Tracy Morgan Reaches Milestone in his Recovery from a Devastating Truck Accident
Over a year ago, comedian and actor Tracy Morgan was seriously injured in a tractor trailer accident. The accident occurred when a Wal-Mart tractor trailer, traveling at excessive speeds, ran into a limousine carrying Morgan and several comedian friends as well as assistants. Morgan fortunately survived the crash but suffered serious injuries, including multiple broken bones and a brain injury that required an extensive stay in the hospital as well as much rehabilitation. However, Morgan's friend and fellow comedian James McNair tragically perished in the accident.
Morgan filed a personal injury lawsuit against Wal-Mart, claiming that the driver who hit him acted negligently in causing the accident. The driver was speeding and had been awake for more than 24 hours at the time of the crash. Morgan claimed that Wal-Mart knew or should have known that the driver could present a hazard on the roadways due to his lack of sleep. The lawsuit settled for an undisclosed amount.
Recently, Morgan reached a milestone in his recovery—he is now walking without a cane. Morgan has admitted on the air that he is still not fully recovered from the accident. Some days he suffers physically as well as emotionally and his balance can still be off at times.
Truck Accident Victims May Face Long Recovery Times
Tracy Morgan's public experience of being injured in a serious crash highlights the often long term nature of a truck accident victim's recovery and the challenges that accident victims face in returning to 100 percent functioning. Truck accidents, due to the size of the truck involved, will often inflict catastrophic injuries that require extensive recovery time. A brain injury is one such catastrophic injury. Direct blows to the head in a truck accident can lead to permanent disabilities or loss of cognitive functioning. Further, rehabilitation can aid in the recovery of brain trauma victims, but it can take time and there are no guarantees of a full recovery.
Other injuries that can require a long recovery time include broken bones. Broken bones are generally be mended with time, but they could also require surgery and rehabilitation depending upon the severity of the break. Truck accidents will often involve multiple breaks or even shattered bones. For these accident victims, it will take weeks, months or even years to restore functioning to the effected limb. Any truck accident victim with serious injuries should retain an attorney to fight for the compensation they deserve.
