Michigan 18-wheeler Truck Driver Severely Injured in an I-70 Accident

According to an online news report published on pal-item.com, an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer truck was significantly damaged after colliding with another semi-tractor-trailer truck at almost full speed on Interstate 70.*

The truck accident occurred late Monday on Interstate 70.  One driver, a 45-year-old driver from Clarkston, Michigan, was transported by ambulance to the Indiana University Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  According to an news release provided by the Indiana State Police state that the driver sustained critical injuries when he and another truck collided.

At approximately 11:35 p.m., the second truck during was operating a 2018 International cab that was pulling a box trailer along I-70 and in a westbound direction.  The truck driver reached a traffic backup caused by an accident at the 132 mile marker.  The truck driver tried to swerve around the stopped traffic.  According to the release, the trucker hit the right rear of another 18-wheeler truck at almost full speed.

The second 18-wheeler truck, a 2018 Freightliner, operated by a 33-year-old man from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  The second truck was forced into a livestock trailer operated by a 44-year-old man from Lumberton, North Carolina.

The crash was so severe that it too over an hour to free the trucker from his cab.  He was then transported to the hospital.  

The accident cleanup and crash investigation closed westbound I-70 for for over six hours. The truck accident investigation is ongoing.  Police took perform chemical tests of the at fault truck driver.  The toxicology reports will be returned in a few days. The original collision happened at around 11:15 p.m.
