One Person Tragically Killed in Motor Vehicle Wreck in Grundy County, Tennessee

GRUNDY COUNTY, TN. – According to a news report posted online at, one person was tragically killed in a motor vehicle wreck that happened in Grundy County, Tennessee. Tennessee Highway Patrol is handling the investigation of the wreck, and Troopers have not yet determined the cause of the collision.* 

The accident occurred during the overnight hours near the intersection of Highway 56 and Main Street in Altamont, Grundy County, Tennessee. Tennessee Highway Patrol and News Channel 9 report that a vehicle was traveling west on Highway 56 and ended up running off the roadway. The vehicle then struck a tree off the road and came to an uncontrolled stop next to a home in the 700 block of Main.

It is not yet clear what caused the driver to travel off the road or what events might have led to the accident. The make and model of the vehicle were not listed in the report. Investigators are still looking into the accident to determine what led to the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the collision. 

News Channel 9 reports that the driver of the vehicle was ejected during the impact and tragically died at the scene. The driver was not identified in the report, as next-of-kin had not been notified of the accident at the time of the story’s publishing. It does not appear that any passengers had been in the vehicle. 

The vehicle was not visible from the roadway following the accident, according to the news report, so the crash was not discovered until the late morning hours. The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office and Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the scene. Tennessee Highway Patrol will be leading the investigation of the accident. No further information was included in the report from News Channel 9.
