Two Injured in Vehicle Crash on I-240 in Memphis, Tennessee

MEMPHIS, TN. – According to a news report posted online at, two people were injured in a vehicle crash that occurred on Interstate 240 in Memphis, Tennessee. The crash reportedly resulted in two people being entrapped in their vehicles and in the closure of the interstate on one side, according to the report.*

The accident happened near the exit to Lamar on the southbound side of I-240. The Memphis Police Department and WREG report that two vehicles crashed in this area of the interstate. The report does not say what types of vehicles were involved, nor does it provide any description of the vehicles. 

It is unclear at this time what caused the accident or what series of events might have led to the wreck. Police officers have not said whether one of the two drivers was at fault. The report does not list any information about the nature of the collision, like in what way the vehicles came to collide. It is unclear if the wreck was a rear-end crash, resulted from a lane change, or if it happened in some other way. 

WREG reports that two people were entrapped following the crash. The report says emergency crews had to free a person from each of the two vehicles but does not say whether the people were drivers or passengers. The victims were not identified. They were reportedly transported to Regional One Hospital, where their conditions are said to be critical. 

It is not clear if anyone else was injured in the wreck. The report does not indicate how many people were in the two vehicles. 

The crash caused all of the southbound portion of the interstate to close down while crews worked at the scene. It is unclear how long the roadway was blocked. Police are still investigating the crash.
