Fatal Collision in Rutherford County Kills One and Highlights Traffic Problems

March 16, 2020

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN - Fox17.com writes that a deadly collision killed one person in Rutherford County, leading to concerns over safety in the area. The incident took place when a 37-year-old driver struck a car that was pulling out from a driveway killing a man and injuring his two children. Reports indicate that the driver was speeding prior to the deadly incident.*

A video of the moments just prior to the fatal collision shows the car speeding down Double Springs Road. One resident on the roadway stated that when she heard the horrific sound of the crash, she thought that someone must have died.

The victim, a 32-year-old man who was exiting his driving, did die as a result of the impact. The neighbor ran to the scene where she could hear the children in the car screaming for their father. She pulled the injured children from the car right in front of her own home.

According to many who live in the area, the speed limit, which is 45 miles per hour, is far too high for the residential neighborhood. While 45 would be too fast as it is, many drivers are witnessed traveling at 60 miles per hour and higher. The witness said they desperately need to add speed bumps or other features to prevent a similar tragedy from happening again.

While news outlets have requested information regarding crash data on Double Springs Road, they have not yet been able to access that information. The County Sheriff stated that they are not aware of problems with the road, although residents in the area stated that they have filed complaints.
