Tragic Fatal Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crash Reported in Bradenton, Florida

January 22, 2020

BRADENTON, FL- writes that a driver struck and killed a pedestrian in Bradenton early in the morning over the weekend. The driver then fled the scene of the accident, leaving the victim on the ground.*

The incident occurred at the intersection of 15th Street East and 57th Avenue before sunrise. Police identified the victim as a 51-year-old man who was attempting to cross the street. Witnesses to the accident stated that the vehicle involved was a four-door blue Honda sedan.

The Florida Highway Patrol is now investigating the incident and requested that anyone with information about the crash, to please come forward and report to the police.

Sadly, hit-and-run crashes are on the rise in the United States. The most likely victims of hit-and-run drivers are pedestrians. Florida has a comparatively high rate of hit-and-runs and, based on studies, comes in third out of all the states in the country for deadly accidents in which the driver flees the scene. The Sunshine State also has the highest number of pedestrian crashes across the nation as well.

Drivers who choose to leave the scene of a crash after injuring someone are often those who are drunk or who do not have a valid driver’s license. The AAA reported on this issue and stated that these drivers are the ones who are motivated to try to avoid the consequences of a collision.

Fleeing the scene of a deadly accident is a criminal act that comes with severe legal consequences. Drivers may face years behind bars for leaving the scene of a crash. Police often have to rely on witnesses or tips from the public in order to catch these suspects.
