Two-Vehicle Collision on S.R. 200 Injures One in Florida

November 26, 2019

FLORIDA- The writes that an intersection crash injured one individual earlier this week. The crash took place on S.R. 200 at its intersection with East Orchard Street in the early afternoon. One of the involved drivers was traveling southbound on S.R. 200 while the other driver was headed north. The southbound driver tried to make a left and reportedly entered the path of the other vehicle.*

The collision injured one of the drivers. Responders transported the man to the Ocala Regional Hospital. Details regarding the condition of the injured individual are not yet available.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that intersection crashes cause almost half of all accidents in the United States with left-turn crashes, causing most of them. Left turns are inherently dangerous because they require a driver to determine the speed and distance of an oncoming vehicle while stopped at an intersection that might be quite busy and full of distractions. According to some experts, your best bet is to avoid making left turn altogether. Statistically, if drivers avoided making left turns, millions of accidents around the country could be prevented each year.

Traffic studies also show that avoiding left turns can improve driving efficiency. Delivery companies who instruct their drivers to take routes designed to avoid left turns found that they not only reduce the risk of their drivers causing or being struck in collisions but also improved delivery times and increased fuel efficiency. UPS uses this method and designed routing software that helps them plan ways for drivers to get to their destinations without making left turns.

To avoid making left turns, a driver can make three right turns, effectively circling around a block to get to the same location. This method is considered much safer for every driver on the road.
