Tragic Fatal Accident in Marshall County, Tennessee

November 21, 2019

Marshall County, TN- writes that a head-on collision killed one individual earlier this week and injured another on Highway 50. In total, four vehicles were involved in the early morning collision.*

An eastbound car reportedly veered over the center line and into oncoming traffic. One of the drivers died in the crash; the other is currently in critical condition. Two other vehicles in the area sustained damage in the accident, but the occupants did not sustain injuries.

The crash led to police closing down all lanes on Highway 50 during the investigation and clean up.

Head-on collisions are severe because of the intense forces involved. When vehicles are involved in head-on collisions, the results are often serious and potentially fatal. Many people fail to realize just how easy it is for a head-on collision to take place. While a highway with a barrier in the middle will prevent most of these accidents, many roads lack any such median or wall, and therefore, only a painted line is in place to separate traffic traveling in opposite directions. On these roads, staying out of oncoming traffic is entirely up to the drivers.

A head-on collision can occur in these cases just by a driver being momentarily distracted. Most head-on collisions are the result of distracted drivers, drowsy drivers, drunk or drugged drivers, failing to notice traffic signals, and drivers failing to take into account poor weather conditions.

Possibly the most frightening thing about these severe accidents is that a responsible driver can be injured or killed in a head-on collision because another person was texting and crossed into his or her lane. When a driver crosses the center line into the path of an oncoming vehicle, the other driver may not have time to react.
