Wreck on Atomic Rd. in Aiken County, South Carolina, Causes One Fatality, Multiple Injuries

AIKEN COUNTY, SC. – According to a news article published online at wjbf.com, a vehicle wreck that occurred on Atomic Road in Aiken County, South Carolina, caused one fatality and multiple injuries. The accident reportedly involved only one vehicle, and authorities are still investigating the crash.*

The accident happened late in the evening, near the intersection of Old Nail Road and Atomic Road in Beech Island, Aiken County, South Carolina. South Carolina Highway Patrol and WJBF report that shortly before 10 p.m., a vehicle was traveling in the area and somehow veered into the median. The vehicle then rolled multiple times before coming to a stop. The make and model of the vehicle were not listed in the report. 

It is not yet clear what caused the accident. The news article states that the driver of the vehicle had been traveling at a high rate of speed and somehow lost control. The report does not say what might have led to the driver’s loss of control. It is not clear if speeding contributed to the wreck. Based on the information in the report, no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

WJBF reports that the driver of the vehicle was ejected during the impact of the crash and tragically died at the scene. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office identified him as a 51-year-old man from Wadley, Georgia. 

In addition, WJBF states that three other adults and two children had been riding in the vehicle at the time of the accident, and all five sustained injuries. They were reportedly taken to Augusta University Medical Center. They were not identified in the news article. Their injuries are said to be non-life threatening. 

South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the wreck. Troopers said that a toxicology analysis was being performed, the results of which were pending.
