Two Georgia Residents Tragically Killed in Wreck on I-85 in Anderson County, South Carolina

September 09, 2019

ANDERSON COUNTY, SC. – According to a news story published at wspa.com, two Georgia residents were tragically killed in a vehicle wreck that happened on Interstate 85 in Anderson County, South Carolina. It appears the accident was caused by a driver traveling the wrong way on the interstate.*

The accident occurred on the southbound side of I-85, near Piedmont. South Carolina Highway Patrol and WSPA report that a Volkswagen (model not reported) was traveling south and encountered a 2006 Chrysler (model not reported) that was traveling north in the southbound lanes. The two vehicles ended up crashing into each other.

It is not yet clear why the driver of the Chrysler was headed the wrong direction. None of the circumstances leading to the accident or factors possibly playing a role in the crash were reported. Authorities are still investigating the events of the collision.

WSPA reports that two passengers who had been riding in the back of the Volkswagen were tragically killed. They were members of the same family returning home from a Labor Day trip. Officials identified them as a 48-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman, both from Roswell, Georgia.

WPSA further reports the driver of the Volkswagen, a 20-year-old male, and a third passenger in the Volkswagen, a 13-year-old male, were injured in the crash. According to information from the family, the driver has undergone several surgeries due to his injuries. The seriousness of the juvenile passenger’s injuries is not known.

The driver of the Chrysler was not identified in the report, though WSPA reports he or she sustained injuries in the wreck, as well, and was taken to a hospital. The extent of this driver’s injuries was not reported.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident, and Troopers have not yet indicated what charges, if any, will be filed.
