Deadly Three-Vehicle Accident Occurs in Lake Wylie, South Carolina

September 07, 2019

LAKE WYLIE, SC – According to an online news report at heraldonline.com, a person has died and another sustained serious injuries in an accident that occurred late last week in Lake Wylie, South Carolina.  The accident caused traffic to be blocked for hours on one of York County’s most heavily trafficked roads, per officials.*

A man, aged 76, from Clover, South Carolina, perished in the accident, per the York County coroner.  The man was a longtime community member and volunteer with the River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club.  The Lions Club president confirmed “with profound sadness” that the man died as a result of the accident.

The deceased was a former board member of the Lions Club and was a Lion of the Year back in 2012.  His passions were communications and technology.  He was the club photographer and published the club website and newsletter.

“He was a community enthusiast and volunteered his time,” a club member noted. “He was very articulate and shared his wide range of knowledge. We shall miss him.”

The accident occurred in the late afternoon on South Carolina Highway 49 at the intersection of Carroll Cove and Latitude Lake, per a trooper with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.  This is located southeast of the North Carolina state line and the Buster Boyd Bridge.

The deceased was operating a 2010 Chevrolet Corvette and was trying to go across South Carolina Highway 49 when the Corvette collided into a 1997 truck.  The Corvette, upon impact, spun and then struck a third automobile.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he later tragically died.  The driver of the truck was injured and was also taken to a local hospital for treatment. The current condition of this driver is not known at this time.
