Car Crash in South Carolina Kills Five People from West Virginia

July 15, 2020

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — A multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 26 near Orangeburg, S.C. claimed the lives of five West Virginia residents. All five of the deceased victims were in one sports utility vehicle. According to wvnstv.com, the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office concluded that all five victims sustained traumatic blunt force injuries that caused their deaths. Authorities reported that two of the victims hailed from Calvin, West Virginia, and the remaining three victims lived in Erbacon, West Virginia. *

The relationships among those killed were unclear; however, at least two of the people killed appear to have been related. Authorities also said that two other occupants in the SUV that carried the five victims were hurt and required emergency hospitalization. The health of those parties is unknown. Law enforcement investigators said that the SUV in which the accident victims rode crossed a median and struck two tractor-tractor trailer trucks and flipped over.  The investigators did not indicate whether either of the truck drivers sustained any injuries in the incident.
