Two Dead in Crash on Dobbins Bridge Road in Anderson, South Carolina (SC)

July 09, 2020

ANDERSON, SC- Foxcarolina.com writes that a deadly crash took place on Dobbins Bridge Road this week. One of the victims was a pedestrian, and the other was the person driving the car that struck the person.*

According to one person who spoke to reporters, the pedestrian was her sister-in-law, and she had gone to check her mail when the vehicle struck her, causing fatal injuries. The pedestrian was identified as a 54-year-old woman.

The driver of the vehicle was a 30-year-old man. Reports indicate that police officers had attempted to stop the driver shortly before the crash. The driver did not stop, and police began a pursuit of the vehicle. Within minutes, the driver lost control of his car, and it veered off the road and into the victim's yard, ultimately striking her as she checked her mail.

The driver then collided with a tree and a parked car at the victim's house. The man was trapped in his car and died from his injuries at the scene. The woman was also declared dead at the crash site.

The incident remains under investigation.

Police chases often lead to tragedies. In 2017, 416 people were reportedly killed in police chases throughout the United States. The number of such deaths increased four years in a row, and since 2013, there has been a 22 percent jump in such fatalities. However, safety experts indicate that the true loss of life is likely much higher because not all police reports state whether a deadly collision occurred in the context of a police pursuit.

Although officials frequently blame the suspects for these incidents, cities often end up paying settlements for such wrecks.
