Pedestrian Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash on Crescent Ridge Drive in Greensville, South Carolina (SC)

July 09, 2020

GREENVILLE, SC- Foxcarolina.com writes that a pedestrian was struck by a car in Greenville at the intersection of Crescent Ridge Drive and North Pleasantburg Drive. The incident occurred in the late evening, and reports indicate that two vehicles collided with the victim, but only the driver in the second vehicle stopped and remained on the scene to wait for law enforcement.*

Responders transported the victim to the hospital, where the individual is reportedly in critical condition.

The vehicle that left the crash site was described as a BMW 3 Series from 1999 to 2005. A nearby camera caught footage of the suspect's car.

Investigators are continuing to search for the vehicle, and are requesting that anyone with information about the incident contact the Greenville Police Department or Crime Stoppers.

In recent years, pedestrians have been dying in larger numbers throughout the United States. There are many possible causes for the increase in pedestrian deaths. One commonly cited factor is the increasing use of cellphones, which are believed to be making drivers and pedestrians more distracted. SUVs, which are accounting for the majority of new vehicle sales in the country, are about twice as likely to kill a person that they strike then would be a car. The popularity of these larger vehicles is also undoubtedly helping drive up the number of fatal pedestrian incidents.

While pedestrian crashes are on the rise, other types of traffic fatalities are remaining fairly steady, and vehicle occupant deaths are declining. As compared to 1975, deaths of occupants in passenger cars are 25 percent lower largely thanks to improving safety technology in cars.
