Tragic Crash Kills Two When Woman Tries to Pass Snowplow in Greenville, South Carolina

February 27, 2020

GREENVILLE, SC- Wyff4.com writes that a driver in Greenville tried to pass a snowplow on Greer Highway and caused a head-on collision. The incident occurred in the evening this week when the South Carolina Department of Transportation plow and a woman in a Chevrolet Camaro were traveling westbound close to Church of God Circle.*

The Camaro collided head-on with a driver in a MINI Cooper who was driving east. The Camaro then collided with the plow before leaving the roadway and rolling over. The 24-year-old woman driving the Camaro and the 55-year-old woman driving the MINI Cooper both died at the scene of the collision from blunt force trauma. Police said that the weather conditions are not the reason for the wreck.

Head-on collisions involve extreme amounts of force. When manufacturers create cars that are designed to be safe for frontal impacts, those vehicles are only tested at up to about 40 miles per hour. While manufacturers would like to create vehicles that are better at protecting occupants in collisions at much higher speeds, doing so becomes extremely challenging. The cars themselves are created to absorb much of the impact, but after a certain point, the people will be absorbing the forces. Even if the seatbelt and airbag prevent the victim from crashing into a hard surface, the person’s internal organs will be colliding with their skeletal frame causing internal injuries. When a car’s momentum is stopped as abruptly as it does in a head-on crash, serious injuries can occur.
