Tragic Car Crash Kills Winston-Salem Man

February 10, 2020

WINSTON-SALEM, NC- The-dispatch.com writes that a car accident took place in Winston-Salem this week on Leonard-Berrier Road. The North Carolina Highway Patrol report that the incident involved just one vehicle, which veered off the left side of the road and collided with a tree.*

The vehicle involved was a 1994 Honda Accord that was traveling southbound at the time of the wreck. Reports indicate that a 38-year-old man, who was a passenger in the car, was transported to the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with severe injuries. The victim passed away a short while later from the injuries he suffered in the wreck.

The driver and another passenger in the vehicle also suffered severe injuries in the collision. The condition of the injured victims is not yet available. Police are still investigating the crash but stated that speed was a factor in the incident. The driver is now facing charges in relation to the collision and the fatality.

Speeding is a major cause of car crashes, including single-vehicle wrecks. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 9,378 people died in collisions involving speeding motorists. About one in every three deadly collisions involves a speeding vehicle. In some instances, drivers are considered to be speeding even if they are not traveling above the speed limit. This is because, in inclement weather or other situations where the road conditions are compromised, the speed limit might be considered too fast.

Speeding causes drivers to be more likely to lose control of their vehicles, reduces the effectiveness of safety features in a car, and makes any resulting crashes more severe. Speeding is also a form of aggressive driving, like tailgating, which puts all road users at risk.
