Driver of Tractor-Trailer Facing Charges after Bus Crash Injures Twelve Students in Stanly County, North Carolina

November 14, 2019

STANLY COUNTY, NC – According to an online news report at cbs17.com, a driver of a tractor-trailer is facing charges after twelve students were transported to a local hospital following a crash involving a school bus.*

According to Stanly County Schools, including West Stanly Highschool/Middle School, bus #80 was involved in a crash on North Carolina Highway 24/27 while making a routine bus stop close to Converse Road.

The school bus was transporting 25 students when it was struck late last week.  Per the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, an 18-wheeler did not slow down and slammed into a pickup truck before hitting the school bus that was stopped.

According to the news report, the driver of the 18-wheeler is facing reckless driving charges.  Following the crash, four students were transported to a local hospital via ambulance while eight other students were taken by their parents or guardians, as noted by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.  Three of the students were released from the hospital.

The operator of the tractor-trailer was transported to a local hospital with a fractured leg.

According to eyewitnesses at the crash scene, they saw a child with a neck brace on and another that was placed on a stretcher.  It appears, per one witness, that the bus was full and at least one child sustained an injury to their back.  None of the victims, as well as the driver of the truck, were identified in the report.
