Man Tragically Killed in Vehicle Crash on Whetstone Rd. in Lexington County, South Carolina

October 25, 2019

LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC. – According to a news story reported online at newsobserver.com, a man was tragically killed in a vehicle crash that happened on Whetstone Road in Lexington County, South Carolina. It appears the accident occurred as a vehicle was attempting to pass another on the roadway.*

The accident took place in the morning in the 2000 block of Whetstone Road. South Carolina Highway Patrol and The News & Observer report that around 9:30 a.m., a vehicle traveling southbound attempted to pass another vehicle that was slowing down on the southbound side of the roadway. In trying to pass, the first vehicle ended up crashing into the second vehicle, which caused the first to veer off the roadway, overturn, and crash into a power pole.

The makes and models of the two vehicles were not reported. The report says that the second vehicle was slowing to pull off to the left but does not say if this vehicle was going to make a left turn. It is unclear in what way the two vehicles came to collide with each other. Authorities did not say if any factors such as speeding were involved in the accident.

The News & Observer reports that the driver of the first vehicle was injured and taken to a local hospital, where he tragically died. He was identified as a 77-year-old man from Gaston, South Carolina. It does not appear that anyone was in the vehicle with him at the time of the accident.

The News & Observer further reports that the driver of the second vehicle was not injured in the accident. This person was not identified in the report, and it is unclear if he or she was the sole occupant of the vehicle. South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the accident.
