Kawasaki Recalls ROVs Over Crash Risk

Mednews365.com reports that Kawasaki USA is recalling one version of its recreational off-road vehicles due to the threat of an increased risk of crashing. Crashing a recreational off-road vehicle is highly dangerous and could easily injure or kill the rider and anyone nearby. The recreational off-road vehicles recalled by Kawaski are the Teryx and Teryx4. The increased risk of crashing the off-road vehicles stems from a joint assembly that is not correctly manufactured. Kawasaki noted that 2,600 of its Teryx and Teryx4 vehicles need to be recalled. *

The Teryx and Teryx4 models recalled by Kawasaki are for 2019 and 2020. Kawasaki manufactures the ROVs in three different models with various color schemes. Colors include green, black, orange, gray, and camouflage. The recreational off-road vehicles are sold by Kawasaki in two-seater and four-seater versions. Kawasaki sold the vehicles from March through August of 2019.

Recreational off-road vehicle accidents are inherently dangerous. Although these vehicles have controls similar to those of a traditional motor vehicle, the safety systems vary greatly. The recreational vehicles have no seatbelts or airbags like a modern motor vehicle. Kawasaki makes these vehicles with roll cages. However, the presence of roll bars and roll cages cannot guarantee the safety of the occupants. Ejected riders could sustain severe or fatal injuries even if the rider wears a helmet.

Mednews365.com says that injuries commonly treated in recreational off-road vehicle accidents include head, face, and neck injuries. Also, riders may experience broken bones, lacerations, spinal cord injuries, and internal injuries. Amputations could occur to the rider if the vehicle, which weighs 1,500 pounds or more when loaded, can fall on the rider and pin an arm or leg to the ground and sever the limb.

As a result of the risks inherent with recreational off-road vehicle accidents, riders must not use their vehicle if it is subject to recall by Kawasaki until the joint assembly is repaired by a certified Kawasaki technician.
