City Color Makeup Products Recalled for Asbestos Contamination

UNITED STATES – According to a news report published online at asbestos.com, several City Color makeup products have been recalled due to confirmed asbestos contamination. The recall was initiated voluntarily by the manufacturer of the products, Beauty Plus Global Inc.*

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the makeup recall on September 6, as including four specific items in the City Color line that tested positive for the presence of asbestos. Asbestos is a material that has been tied to the deadly condition mesothelioma and a variety of other medical issues. It is a naturally occurring substance in some areas where talc is mined, and talc is a widely used mineral in numerous cosmetic products (eyeshadow, blush, pressed and loose powders, etc.).

The four products were sold in stores and online by retailers like Amazon and Walmart. It is not clear how many units were sold or at what price each of the products was sold. The recalled Beauty Plus Global City Color products include the following:

  • City Color Matte Blush in Fuchsia – Lot No. 1605020/PD-840, SKU 849136008807
  • City Color Timeless Beauty Palette – Lot No. 1510068/PD-C864R, SKU 849136012958
  • City Color Bronzer in Sunset – Lot No. 106634/PD-P712M, SKU 849136016017
  • City Color Shimmer Bronzer in Caramel – Lot No. 1612112/PD-840, SKU 849136017106

Beauty Plus Global has previously recalled makeup due to asbestos contamination. Early this summer, the company pulled its Contour Effects Palette 2 from the market. The latest recall comes after nationwide makeup and accessory company Claire’s recalled its collaborative makeup set with JoJo Siwa. The kit, intended for children, contained an eyeshadow palette that tested positive for asbestos.

The FDA cautions consumers to not use any recalled makeup products or any products with suspected asbestos contamination. Recalled products should be discarded or returned to retailers for a refund.
