Class-Action Lawsuit Filed Regarding Nissan Automatic Emergency Braking System
USA- Driver assistance technology in Nissan vehicles has started a class action, according to MOTORILLUSTRATED.COM.
Driver assistance technology, including emergency braking systems, has been credited with improving vehicle safety on American roads. Nissan, and all other manufacturers, are working to install advanced crash prevention systems in their vehicles. However, flaws with such systems can lead to serious dangers and repercussions for the companies that created the faulty technology.
The Nissan Rogue's automatic emergency braking systems have proven ineffective and defective. Reports state that when the systems are working as intended, they are able to prevent some crashes. However, in some cases, technology will detect objects where none exist. The flaw can cause the vehicle to slow down unexpectedly or even stop without any prior warning. So far, five injuries have resulted from the technology. In total, fourteen crashes occurred and are reported as a result of Nissan's automatic emergency braking.
Although the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports 1,400 incidents of problems with the automatic emergency brakes in the Rogues, Nissan has yet to issue a recall. Now a class-action lawsuit has been filed against the manufacturer. Nissan's attorneys attempted to have the complaint dismissed, but a federal judge recently ruled in favor of plaintiffs. According to reports, Nissan is aware of the malfunctioning systems.
Although crash prevention technology has yet to be perfected, studies indicate that this technology is helping improve road safety throughout the United States. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that crash fatalities dropped in 2019 for the third year in a row. Many people credit improving road safety on crash prevention technology such as automatic emergency braking systems.
