Kia Issues Recall Due to Electrical Problem that Could Cause Fire Hazards
USA- Kutv.com writes that Kia recalled thousands of vehicles over a problem that could cause vehicles to catch fire. The issue also affects Hyundai models manufactured by Kia’s affiliate company.*
The problem is that water can enter the brake computer leading to an electrical short. This issue may lead to a car fire. Close to 229,000 Sedona vans are subject to the recall, including any models manufactured between 2006 and 2010. Kia’s Sorento SUVs are also included, and the company states the issue impacts models made between 2007 and 2009.
So far, there have been seven reported fires, and the cars can ignite even when the engines are not in use.
The manufacturer has had previous issues with engine fires in their cars. The recent defects have sparked investigations by the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA). For owners with the affected cars, it is important to have the repairs completed immediately. Kia dealers will start conducting repairs in April.
Hyundai recalled 430,000 vehicles earlier this month because of the same issue. The Hyundai Elantra models manufactured between 2006 and 2011 and Elantra Touring models built between 2007 and 2011 are included in that earlier recall. Hyundai stated that three fires had taken place in the vehicles.
