More Than 165,000 Infant Sleepers Recalled for Suffocation Risk

March 20, 2020

UNITED STATES – According to a news story posted online at usatoday.com, more than 165,000 infant sleepers have been recalled by four different manufacturers because of a risk of suffocation. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall at the end of January and advised parents to return recalled sleepers for refunds.*

The latest round of recalls follows a trend of manufacturers pulling inclined sleepers off the shelves. Inclined sleepers have been tied to the suffocation deaths of more than 70 infants. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, infants should sleep flat on their backs on a firm surface that is not inclined. Inclined sleeping surfaces allow babies to potentially turn from their backs to their sides or stomachs. Their breathing can then become obstructed by the sleepers.

Included in this recall are sleepers made by Graco, Delta Children, Evenflo, and Summer Infant. Graco has the largest share of this recall, pulling more than 110,000 Little Lounger Rocking Seats. The recalled product information for the four companies is as follows:

  • Graco Little Lounger Rocking Seat – Model numbers 1872034, 1875063, 1875102, 1877160, 1882081, 1896313, 1908957, 1914283, 2047734, 1922809

  • Delta Children Beautyrest Beginnings Incline Sleeper, Disney Baby Minnie Mouse Incline Sleeper, Deluxe 3-in-1 Activity Rocker, Feeder, and Sleeper (no model numbers provided)

  • Evenflo Pillo Portable Napper – Model number 12132125

  • Summer Infant SwaddleMe By Your Bed Sleeper – Model number 91394

Parents with any of the recalled sleepers are advised to stop using them immediately and contact the manufacturers to arrange for full refunds. Parents are also urged to stop using any kind of inclined sleeper for infants, even if it has not been included in recent recalls, due to the risk all inclined sleepers may pose to infants.
