Water Safety is Critical this Summer
TROUP COUNTY, GA – According to an online news report at lagrangenews.com, five people drowned in water across the state of Georgia during the Memorial Day weekend, including one man at West Point Lake. These accidents highlight the need for water safety, which is critical this summer.*
Over the Memorial Day weekend, five individuals lost their lives in water accidents in Georgia, with one occurring at West Point Lake. Additional drowning accidents happened on Lake Lanier and another male victim died on the Chattahoochee River.
In Troup County, Georgia, a thirty four year old man from Jonesboro died when he was attempting to save the life of his father who fell into West Point Lake close to Cameron Mill Bridge Road.
Per the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, the son and his father were asleep on their boat at around midnight when the father accidentally fell from the boat. His son jumped into the water to save his father but drowned in the process.
This accident is currently being investigated by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources.
The above incidents, all of which were under a variety of circumstances, illustrate how there is a need to discuss water safety and what measures can be pursued to prevent water related accidents.
