Nashville, Fire Dept. Reports Scooter Injury Numbers After Fatal Accident
NASHVILLE, TN. – According to an online news report from wsmv.com, the Nashville Fire Department is reporting scooter injury numbers after a man was killed in a scooter accident in Nashville, Tennessee. So far in 2019, more than 70 people have been transported to hospitals with scooter injuries by the fire department alone.*
A 26-year-old man from Nashville was involved in a scooter accident inside the city. He was reportedly turning at the intersection of 14th Avenue and Demonbreun Street, when he was struck by a passing vehicle. WSMV reports that the man was transported to a hospital with severe injuries, and he died early the next morning.
The family members of the victim say they want electric scooters to be removed from the streets of Nashville because they pose a danger to riders and others. The Nashville Fire Department might agree with that sentiment, as fire officials have released some figures regarding scooter injuries in the city.
Between January and April 2019, the Nashville Fire Department responded to 74 calls regarding scooter accidents and scooter injuries that required medical transport. The number of injury-causing accidents seems to be trending up, as 43 of those calls took place just in April. Twelve people were transported to hospitals by Nashville Fire in January, four people in April, and 15 people in March.
Fire officials say these numbers are just for calls in which someone needed transport to a hospital. The department responded to even more calls where people received treatment at the scene and did not need to be transported.
