$20 Million Awarded to Trucker Who His Lost Leg in a Georgia Accident

May 25, 2019

WHITFIELD, GA – According to an online article at, a Whitfield County, Georgia superior court jury awarded a man $20 million and his wife $1.6 million for an accident that was caused by a rental equipment company and one of its truckers.

A jury awards $21.6 million to a couple due to the husband’s injuries sustained in a trucking accident.

The accident happened on February 3, 2018, where the husband was loading scrap metal on an 18-wheeler that was owned by the equipment rental company and was operated by a male trucker.  Upon loading the truck, the husband attempted to assist the male trucker off of the property where they were located and onto the road by serving as a “spotter.”  However, the male trucker went onto the southbound lanes of South Dixie Highway without following the assistance of the husband.

In an article from Lane Line Mag, they note that “[w]hile [the male trucker’s] truck was blocking the highway, another man was driving his red Ford pickup truck on South Dixie Highway northbound. Attempting to avoid a collision, the driver of the Ford hit the brakes and veered right off the roadway. The Ford driver’s truck struck a dumpster and several metal bins before striking Monroe, who was standing nearby.”

As a result of the crash, the husband had to have his leg amputated below the knee as well as a metal rod implanted into his right leg.

Due to the accident, Monroe had to get his left leg amputated below the knee along with a metal rod implant in his right leg.

Upon investigation of the crash, the Georgia State Patrol issued a citation to the male equipment rental driver for failing to yield when going onto a roadway.  The driver of the Ford was also cited for failing to exercise due care in the operation of his automobile.

The court verdict found the equipment rental company and its driver, along with their insurance carrier, 99.99% at fault for the accident.  The driver of the Ford was found only 0.01% at fault.
