‘Click It or Ticket’ Underway in Forsyth County, Georgia
FORSYTH COUNTY, GA. – According to an online new report posted by patch.com, the annual seat belt campaign known as “Click it or Ticket” is underway in Forsyth County, Georgia. Drivers in the county can expect to see law enforcement officers out in higher numbers to patrol for seat belt violations.*
Starting May 20 this year and running to June 2, Click it or Ticket is designed to alert drivers and passengers to the dangers of failing to fasten their seat belts. The campaign purposely runs through the Memorial Day holiday weekend, as this is one of the busier traveling periods every year. Click it or Ticket 2019 involves 10,000 participating law enforcement agencies around the United States.
Forsyth County’s law enforcement officers are among those participating in the campaign this year. In 2017, 15 people died in vehicle crashes in the county, and one of those people was not wearing a seat belt. Nationwide that year, 10,000 people who were not wearing seat belts were killed in traffic crashes.
Seat belts are mandatory under state law for adult drivers and passengers in every state except New Hampshire. Children must be belted in all states, and in most states, they must also ride in child safety seats or car seats until a certain age. A seat belt can mean the difference between life and death in a car accident, especially for children.
With car accidents continuing to be a leading cause of death for Americans, seat belt use is of particular importance. This is why officers around the country join together every year to crack down on seat belt violations.
