Motorcycle Battery Explodes at Post Office in Loves Park, Illinois

LOVES PARK, IL. – According to a news story reported online at, a motorcycle battery exploded at a post office in Loves Park, Illinois. The Loves Park Police Department told reporters about the incident and said that no one was seriously injured. The explosion is reportedly still under investigation.* 

The incident took place in the early evening on April 15 at about 5:30 p.m. that day. Emergency responders were called to the Loves Park Post Office, located at 1702 Windsor Road in Loves Park, on a call of an explosion. At the time, the incident was believed to be a package explosion, and officers did not know what had been in the package. 

The building was evacuated, and several emergency agencies were called to the scene, including an ambulance. Later that evening, Loves Park Police Chief Chuck Lynde said that the package contained a motorcycle battery. It is still not known how the battery came to explode. The report from WIFR did not provide information about the circumstances surrounding the explosion.

Chief Lynde stated that one worker at the post office sustained minor injuries in the incident, including skin irritation. This person was not identified. Lynde followed up by saying that the person was not seriously injured, nor was anyone else in the building.

It is unclear whether the explosion caused any damage to the post office building or any equipment inside the building. The sender of the package and the intended recipient were not named in the report. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.
