Lawsuit: Tennessee Man Permanently Disfigured in Vape Pen Explosion
CONCORDIA, TN. – According to an online news report posted at metro.co.uk, a lawsuit claims that a Tennessee man was permanently disfigured in a vape pen explosion. The man was reportedly attempting to use the pen when it exploded in his mouth. The explosion caused portions of his mouth and face to be severely injured.*
In May 2018, a 25-year-old man from Concordia, Tennessee, was using a vape pen that contained a lithium-ion battery, which is the type of battery included in almost all e-cigarettes. As he was trying to smoke the pen, it reportedly exploded, causing part of his mouth and flesh on his face to be torn away. He also sustained damaged teeth in the explosion. He reportedly required 65 stitches to his face and suffered permanent injuries.
The man has filed a lawsuit in connection with the incident against three companies that were part of the sale and distribution of the pen. His lawsuit, which is pending in federal court, alleges that the explosion was so extreme that pieces of the pen flew up to the ceiling of the man’s home and caused burns on the ceiling and wall.
The man says the vape pen that exploded in his mouth was a VGOD Pro Mech 2. He reportedly bought the pen at a retailer called Create a Cig Cordova. He has sued the manufacturer of the pen, the seller of the pen, and the manufacturer of the battery in the pen, which is an affiliate of LG Electronics.
The news report states that VGOD and Create a Cig Cordova have filed responses in the case, in which they both say that the man caused his own injuries by acting negligently in his use of the vape pen.
