Wrongful Death Lawsuit Reaches Settlement
NEW YORK – According to an online news report posted at deadline.com, a wrongful death lawsuit stemming from the movie “Deadpool 2” has been settled for an undisclosed amount. The family of a stunt woman filed the lawsuit against 20th Century Fox after the woman died during filming of the movie.*
The woman was reportedly a motorcycle stunt performer and died during production of the film “Deadpool 2” in 2017. The accident took place in Vancouver on the movie set when the woman was riding a Ducati motorcycle and was involved in an accident.
The woman was the first black female road racer, according to Deadline, and the “Deadpool” sequel was her time performing stunts in a feature film. The film, which debuted in May 2018, starred Ryan Reynolds and Zazie Beetz. The stunt woman was reportedly filming a stunt for Beetz’s character, Domino, and lost control of the motorcycle, crashing through a glass window of the Shaw Tower.
Witnesses reportedly said that it appeared the motorcycle malfunctioned and accelerated when it was supposed to be slowing down. The character Domino does not wear a helmet, so the stunt woman was not wearing one at the time of the crash. She sustained fatal injuries in the wreck.
The woman reportedly lived in New York, and the settlement will be transferred to the woman’s estate in a New York probate court. The amount of the settlement was not disclosed. Further details about the settlement were not released in the Deadline report. No statements from the victim’s family were included in the report.
