Drunk Driving in Florida – Jacksonville Ranks Third in State for Drunk Driving Accident Deaths

April 15, 2019

JACKSONVILLE, FL – As reported by www.news4jax.com, a new LendingTree study concluded that Jacksonville ranks third in the state of Florida for drunk driving accident deaths.*

According to a recently published LendingTree study, 515 people sustained fatal injuries in 2017 in the state of Florida from being involved in a traffic accident that involved a drunk driver.  The study also identified what cities in Florida see the most drunk driving accident deaths.  The top three cities in Florida for drunk driving accident deaths include the following:

  1. Sarasota– 12.20 deaths per 100,000 residents;
  2. Lakeland– 6.50 deaths per 100,000 residents; and
  3. Jacksonville– 5.60 deaths per 100,000 residents.

The LendingTree study also found that Lakeland has seen the highest increase in the state for drunk driving accident deaths, increasing 171% over the previous three-year period.  Jacksonville is the only city in the northeast portion of Florida to make the list of top cities to experience drunk driving accident deaths.

The LendingTree study uncovered even more specific information about Jacksonville, concluding and reporting that U.S. 1 is the most dangerous road in the Jacksonville area, with a reported 15 drunk driving accident deaths between 2015 and 2017.  Additionally, the LendingTree study determined that there have been 138 drunk driving accident deaths in Jacksonville over the past three years, which places Jacksonville at 191% over the average among other large cities.

While the drunk driving accident deaths statistics look grim for Jacksonville and some other larger Florida cities, the LendingTree study found that statewide, drunk driving accident deaths are down by 6%, which is positive for the overall fight against drunk driving.  However, the drunk driving accident deaths continue to be too high given the amount of awareness most drivers have on the subject.
