United States Senator Calling for Recalls of E-Cigarettes

March 21, 2019

New York City, NY – According to an online news report at newsinfo.inquirer.net, a United States senator is seeking to get to the bottom of the recent e-cigarette explosions that have been occurring across the country. In so doing, he is seeking to have the federal government recall e-cigarette batteries and devices that have been exploding and catching fire, causing injuries to unsuspecting users.

The senator, a New York Democrat, is calling e-cigarettes, also known as “vapes” and “vape pends,” “ticking time bombs,” due to the fact that they have been causing injury and death to users.

One e-cigarette user described a firecracker like blast in her pocket caused by an e-cigarette, which caused third degree burns on her leg and exploded through her pants. Projectiles from the e-cigarette actually stuck onto the dashboard of her car as a result of the force of the explosion.  This woman had been seeking a safer alternative to smoking regular tobacco products and thought that vapes were potentially the answer to her problem. She was returning from a hair salon at the time the explosion occurred.

As e-cigarettes become increasingly popular, similar accidents have become more frequent, with defective lithium-ion batteries potentially being the cause.  The same types of batteries are used in many other products, however, they are behind explosions and fires that have occurred in smartphones and hover boards.

As a result of this disturbing trend, the U.S. senator wants the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission and the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to get to the bottom of why a number of devices, many manufactured in China, are exploding.  He was the recent rash of injuries and death should be impetus for federal action.
