Honda Recalls Acura and Honda Vehicles Due to Defective Airbag Inflators

Honda Recalls Acura and Honda Vehicles Due to Defective Airbag Inflators Manufactured by Takata

United States – according to an online news report at gpbnews.com, the major car brand Honda is recalling over one million Acuras and Hondas in the U.S. with defective air bag inflators manufactured by Takata.*

Honda has recalled over one million Acuras and Hondas in the United States that are equipped with defective air bag deflators that if deployed, could cause an explosion resulting in pieces of sharp metal to shoot towards drivers and passengers in affected vehicles.  The air bag inflators are meant to protect people, not cause potential injury and death.

Honda has announced on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 that 1.1 million automobiles are being recalled due to the defective Takata air bag inflators.

Takata is already part of the largest recall in American history, which affected about 37 million automobiles containing approximately 50 million defective air bags, according to the United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This NHTSA has stated in response to the massive recall, it is aware of fifteen deaths associated with defective air bag inflators and injuries sustained therefrom by approximately two hundred fifty people.

Back in 2017, Takata made an agreement with the United States Justice Department to pay one billion dollars in a settlement for concealing the defects affecting their air bag inflators.

The recall issued on Tuesday by Honda would never have had to happen had Takata taken proactive measures to correct the defects that they knew about yet did nothing to prevent.

In fact, new air bag inflators were installed due to the original mass recall of Takata air bag inflators, yet they were still as defective as the original ones.  This suggests that Takata took no measures to correct the issues, despite the massive recall. Honda predicts that the collective amount of recalled inflators in Hondas and Acuras will be approximately twenty one million, per the company.
