Staying Safe on Your Motorcycle in Georgia

March 03, 2019

Motorcyclists understand that there are rules of the road in Georgia, but it’s always advisable to have a refresher on tips to stay safe while riding in the state. You should be sure to take certain steps to stay safe each time you ride.

Remember that Georgia law requires all people riding on motorcycles to wear helmets. This includes both drivers and passengers on the motorcycle. You should be sure to always wear a helmet that is certified by the department of transportation. These are the safest helmets you can wear while riding.

Be sure you also always have on appropriate safety gear while riding your bike. This includes a strong pair of boots, gloves, and a leather jacket. These are extremely important pieces of gear to protect yourself if you fall off the bike or are in an accident.

Remember to always obey the traffic rules on the road. As you know, the same rules that apply to other motorists apply to you on a motorcycle. Use caution and understand that there is a certain amount of defensive driving you have to do on a motorcycle. Other drivers are not always paying attention and looking out for bikes.

Keep up on your motorcycle maintenance, including checking your tires regularly, ensuring your lights work, and ensuring your brakes are in good condition. Arrange for any needed repairs as soon as possible. And of course, never ride after you have been drinking. A high number of motorcycle fatalities in the country are associated with alcohol consumption.
