Lawsuit Filed Against Georgia Man Alleging Sexual Tourism Business
Those who are victimized by sexual predators can seek financial compensation for the severe consequences of being sexually abused. A recent lawsuit brought against a Georgia man who allegedly operated a sexual tourism business serves as an example.
Four Brazilian teenage girls ranging in age from 12 to 17 claim that the Georgia man organized and operated tours until 2009 under the name Wet-A-Line Tours. The four teenage girls allege that they were forced to use drugs, alcohol and engage in sex with tourists on the fishing tour excursions. The plaintiffs in the lawsuit allege that the operator of the tour exploited the underage girls from poor backgrounds.
The lawsuit has been filed in federal court in Northern Georgia. The lawsuit alleges that the company began operating fishing tours in 1998 and eventually started offering one-week tours along the Amazon. According to the lawsuit, the company actively recruited underage Brazilian girls for sex tourism. It is also alleged that the company often catered to successful U.S. tourists.
The fishing excursions reportedly turned into wild parties that involved drug use and sex with the minors. The lawsuit alleges that the company owner had employees recruit underage girls in Autazes and a nightclub along the Amazon to entice underage girls into participating. Because the area is an extremely poor area, even small sums of money made the offer to underage girls attractive.
Sexual abuse and exploitation of underage children can cause serious long-term injury. A civil lawsuit may often be maintained for financial damages at the same time that criminal charges are pending. It is not clear that any criminal case have been filed in the Wet-A-Line Tours child abuse case. Because the children are underage, the victims in a Georgia child abuse lawsuit also may have the right to seek punitive damages.
