NTSB Report Releases New Information About Atlanta Plane Crash

February 06, 2019

ATLANTA, GA. – According to an online news report published at wsbtv.com, a report released by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) describes additional information about a plane crash that occurred in December 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. The crash killed four people who were in the plane.*

NTSB officials have published a full report documenting the federal investigation of the crash that killed four people. On December 20, 2018, the plane was traveling to Memphis, Tennessee, when it crashed near the Fulton County Airport outside of Atlanta. All four people on the plane were from Memphis, and none of them survived the crash.

The victims were identified as Wei Chen, John Chen, Bruce Pelynio, and Danielle Robinson. Wei Chen, who was piloting the plane, was a business executive who was widely known in Memphis. He had lived in the area since the late 1990s when he began studying for an MBA from the University of Memphis. He founded Sunshine Enterprise and became a pilot.

Chen was the first Chinese pilot to take a single-engine airplane around the world, a feat he accomplished in 2011. The trip, which consisted of 40 stops in major cities, raised $250,000 for charity. Chen donated the money to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The NTSB, released January 31, indicates that a security camera captured the plane crash. According to the report, in the video, the plane can be seen performing a “descending left turn,” then rolling in an inverted fashion. The plane flies behind a tree and hits another tree, then crashes to the ground.

NTSB reported that the collision with the tree tore the plane, and pieces scattered in an area of land spanning more than 300 feet. A piece of the airplane tail was recovered close to 300 feet from the main area of the crash.
