Trial Begins for Georgia Woman Injured at Walt Disney World

ORLANDO, FL. – Trial began January 29 in a Georgia woman’s case against Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S. Inc., according to an online news report posted to blog.cvn.com. The woman alleges that she was injured at a Walt Disney World restaurant and suffers from a nerve disorder because of the injury.* 

Plaintiff Jessica Wilson was on vacation at Walt Disney World in June 2013 to celebrate her child’s birthday. Her and her family were at a restaurant on their trip, when she says a bussing cart ran over her foot. Her foot initially only bruised, she says, and she declined hospital treatment. However, in the days following, she developed unbearable pain in her foot. 

When she returned home from the trip, she continued to have chronic pain in her foot, and doctors diagnosed her with complex regional pain syndrome, which is a rare type of nerve disorder. Wilson then filed a lawsuit against the resort company, alleging that the incident has significantly affected her life. 

On January 29, opening statements began in Wilson’s trial against Disney World. Her attorney told the jury that Wilson is not the same person she was before the accident. The attorney also said that Disney appeared to have no real policies and procedures for use of the restaurant carts, which can weigh between 170 and 240 pounds. 

An attorney for Disney countered that Wilson missed numerous doctors’ appointments prior to her diagnosis of complex regional pain syndrome, and that she had not followed her doctors’ advice regarding exertion and weight-bearing. The Disney attorney also told jurors that it would have been quite difficult for the type of bussing cart in question to roll over someone’s foot.
