Tips for Avoiding Cell Phone Battery Explosions

January 18, 2019

On online news report from timesnownews.com provides tips for safety while using your cell phone.

The lithium-ion batteries in cell phones and other electronic devices have been associated with explosions — most notably, the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. These cell phones were so prone to explosions that not only did the manufacturer recall the phones, airlines also prohibited passengers from bring them on board planes.

Defects in the cell phones and batteries contribute to explosions, but consumers can also practice a few safety tips to avoid danger. These include:

Avoid using your phone while it is charging.  Many electronic device explosions are related to heat. Your phone produces heat while it is in use and while it is charging. Doubling up on that heat production can be unsafe.

Use the manufacturer’s charger or an authorized charger.  Chargers that did not come with your phone or come from an authorized retailer should not be used. These chargers can wear out or charge your phone incorrectly and expose you to danger.

Do not use chargers that are meant for other types of electronics. The output on your tablet charger is going to be different from your cell phone charger. Cross-use of chargers can lead to dangerous overheating.

Only use safe outlets to charging.  Make sure all outlets you use are safe and up to code. Do not use loose outlets or outlets without face plates.

Charge your phone somewhere away from you.  Most people charge their phones right next to them while they’re sleeping. However, to be completely safe, you should charge your phone somewhere away from where you’re lying or sitting. In the event of an explosion, you want to be a safe distance away.
