Lawsuit Illustrates Dangers Lurking in Trampoline Parks
BRITISH COLUMBIA, Canada — The children of a deceased parent are suing a trampoline park after watching their father die as a result of injuries sustained after jumping into a foam pit, BIV.com reported. The plaintiffs, Georgia and Reed Greenwood, are the daughters of Jason Greenwood. Mr. Greenwood died at the Extreme Air Park located in Richmond on January 20, 2018. The children's guardian, Molly Gates, filed the claim on behalf of Mr. Greenwood's daughters. The case is still pending in Supreme Court in British Columbia.*
The lawsuit filed by the children is the second lawsuit filed against Extreme Air Park and its corporate owners over the death of Jason Greenwood. This latest suit seeks damages for the pain, suffering, and loss the children suffered after watching their father die in the trampoline park mishap. In addition to suing the park's corporate owners, the children have filed a claim against "John Doe," an unidentified park employee who dismissed the stricken man's daughters' pleas for help. The suit alleges that the park employee went to look after another patron of the facility instead of immediately attending to the injured Greenwood.
The lawsuit alleges that the park negligently supervised the patrons' use of the foam pit and trampoline amusements at the facility. The suit claims that the children saw their father enter the foam pit and get hurt. They realized he was badly injured and possibly dying right before their eyes. They found this shocking and distressing, according to the allegations contained in the pleadings. The children claim they suffered injuries to their mental health after the accident including suffering from depression and anxiety. The lawsuit asks the court to grant the plaintiffsgeneral damages in addition to special damages for the medical bills and other expenses.
Other family members of Jason Greenwood filed a wrongful death suit in June of 2018. That case has not gone to trial either. There is a chance both cases might be consolidated for trial. The court did not set a trial date yet, andthe defendants have not responded to the children's lawsuit as of this point.
