Officials Announce ‘Yellow Dot Program’ in Augusta, Georgia
AUGUSTA, GA. – (augustachronicle.com) According to an online news story from augustchronicle.com, local officials announced the start of the “Yellow Dot Program” at a press conference in Augusta, Georgia. The program is designed to alert emergency responders to important medical information about victims.*
The Yellow Dot Program is free to participants and helps emergency responders provide vital care to patients with certain medical conditions. The idea for this program originated in Connecticut in 2002, but Georgia is the first state to test and evaluate the processes associated with it.
Participants in the program receive round yellow decals with a peach on them. The decals are to be placed on people’s vehicle windows or at the entrances to their homes. When emergency responders see the Yellow Dots, they know life-saving information can be found inside the victim’s glove compartment or inside the freezer of the home.
Throughout the next few weeks, people will be able to sign up for the program at fire stations in Augusta. Once people sign up, they will receive packets with an information card and decal. City officials hope to eventually expand access to the program at parks and government offices. If the program is successful, it could expand across the state to other communities.
The Yellow Dot Program in Augusta is the result of a collaboration with the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services, Leadership of Age-Friendly Augusta, the Georgia Department of Public Health, the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Augusta Fire Department, the Richmond County Marshal’s Office, and the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
