Tyson Recalls Frozen Chicken Saying Breading Might Contain Plastic

June 12, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 8, 2018 (fsis.usda.gov) The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced June 8 a Class II recall affecting certain Tyson Foods Inc. chicken products. The recall was detailed in a press release on fsis.usda.gov.

Tyson is recalling approximately 3,120 pounds of frozen chicken breast products that might contain small amounts of blue and clear soft plastic. The recall affects frozen, uncooked and breaded chicken tenderloins produced on May 17, 2018. The products come in 12-pound boxes containing 3-pound bags of tenderloins and bear the lot number 1378NLR02 and the establishment number P-746. They are sold to food services establishments only and were not available for purchase in retail stores.

Tyson notified FSIS that its breading supplier was recalling breading ingredients for foreign material contamination, and the company then acted to perform a Class II recall of the products it produced with the potentially contaminated breading. A Class II recall is one with a “remote probability of adverse health consequences,” according to FSIS. FSIS has received no reports of adverse health effects due to consumption of the Tyson products, but the agency is concerned the products might be served at food service institutions.

FSIS advises any food service institution with the affected product on its shelves to immediately discard the products. FSIS will conduct investigation and take steps to ensure no recalled products are left on shelves or served to people. Consumers with questions or concerns about the chicken breast product recall can contact Tyson Foods Inc. by calling (888) 747-7611.
